The CAC, also known as the Citizen's Advisory Committee, is a group of community leaders and citizens involved in the Metropolitan District's Clean Water Project. The CAC's members have worked closely with the District since June 30, 2004. The CAC comprises individuals from the eight member towns of the District.
The District entered a consent order with the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (CTDEP) to develop a long-term control plan designed to reduce the impact
of Combined Sewer Overflow discharges and Sanitary Sewer Overflows on receiving waters in the area. MDC, working in conjunction with their consultants, sought
to elicit public feedback. The CAC was created to offer that feedback and guidance on the planning project and potential CSO control measures under consideration, with regard to benefits and impacts associated with various project alternatives. The CAC has helped identify the issues important to the public, along with providing guidance for the communicating of the issues to the general public and assist with "getting the word out" as needed. The CAC is vital to advising the District moving forward as the District develops and implements the recommended CSO control plan. The CAC has three subcommittees:
