MDC WARNS OF SUSPECTED IMPOSTER

HARTFORD, (October 27, 2009) -- The Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) is advising all customers to be cautious of an individual posing as a ”Water Company” employee in an attempt to enter homes.

Today, October 27, 2009, the MDC was made aware of a potential imposter in Hartford. The MDC urges residents, especially those who are home during the day, to be alert for imposters by following these tips:

• MDC field employees wear clothing and drive vehicles clearly marked with the MDC logo.
   
• The MDC encourages customers to ask for identification from anyone who comes to their door. All MDC employees have photo identification badges and will gladly display them upon request. The policy is "No Identification - No Entry".
   
• If you have any doubt about the individual’s identity or motives, or authenticity of their credentials, do not allow them entry into your home and call the police.
   
• Customers can also call the MDC Emergency Command Center twenty-four hours a day, seven days week at 860-278-7850 ext 3600 or by email at H2oqc@themdc.com to verify identification and validate that an individual is a representative of the MDC.

The MDC is a nonprofit municipal corporation chartered by the Connecticut General Assembly in 1929. The MDC provides water, sewer and household hazardous waste collection services to its member municipalities: Bloomfield, East Hartford, Hartford, Newington, Rocky Hill, West Hartford, Wethersfield and Windsor. In addition, under a series of special agreements, the District supplies treated water to Glastonbury, the southern portion of South Windsor, the eastern portion of Farmington, East Granby and Unionville.
